An elegant pair of French interior candlesticks executed circa 1900 in the Empire style. The composition combines finely gilt bronze with transparent glass, creating a refined contrast between the luminous gilded surfaces and the light refracting glass elements. The circular bases are enriched with concentric ornamentation and rise into baluster shaped stems incorporating faceted glass sections with a diamond pattern. The upper and lower bronze collars, together with the broad candle sockets, display restrained classical proportions and finely executed decorative chasing. These candlesticks are characteristic examples of French decorative arts produced during the Historicist period, inspired by the artistic legacy of the First Empire.
